The RIETI Japanese Institute and the Gakushuin University join the SPINTAN project

The research collaboration will provide Japanese data to the SPINTAN database

The Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI) and the Gakushuin University have joined the SPINTAN project to generate and thereby contribute Japanese data to the SPINTAN database.

The new SPINTAN associate partners conduct two projects on intangibles. The first project “Study on Intangible Assets in Japan”, developed by RIETI,  started in 2007. The Japan Industrial Productivity Database, JIP Database 2013, emerged from this project.

The new SPINTAN associate partners develop two projects on intangible assets and intangible investment in Japan

The second project, “Empirical Research on Intangible Investment in Japan” (ERII), developed by the Gakushuin University, started in 2010. This research focuses on the role of intangible assets on growth at the aggregate, industry and firm levels. At the aggregate level, the aim is to measure Japanese intangible investment in a way comparable with those in other advanced countries. Using the results at the aggregate level, they measure intangible investment at the industry level and examine its contribution to industry growth. At the firm level, they examine the effects of organizational structure and human resource management on firm performance.

Researcher Tsutomu Miyagawa is the leader of both projects.
